Obituary of Francis Wilfred Chauvin

CHAUVIN, Frank (Francis) Wilfred Passed away peacefully at home at the age of 81 years on Friday, March 13, 2015 surrounded by his loving and devoted wife Lorraine of 61 years, and their 10 children; Rose Costa (Lou); Theresa Russell (Dave); Tom; Cathy Cincurak (Steve); Gerry (Cheryl); Roger (Angie); Charlie (Anne); Joe (Lisa); Michael (Diane); and Daniel. Predeceased by sister Marie Tizzard (2014). Survived by sister Pauline Hawkeswood; 22 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Frank served a total of 33 years with the Windsor Police Service and the Town of Riverside Police Department. Following his retirement as a Windsor Police detective, Frank committed his time to serving the poor. He was the founding Director of an orphanage in Haiti sustained by the generous donations of individuals and businesses world-wide, providing food, shelter, clothing, and an education to 65 girls for the past 35 years. Frank"s charity work also extended to "Canadian Food For Children" sending food monthly to 16 Third World countries. In 1998, Frank was appointed and served as a provincial Citizenship and Immigration Court Judge. Frank was the recipient of numerous awards including "The Independent Order Daughter"s of the Empire (IODE) for police and community work; The Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship; Riverside Optimist Law Enforcement Award; Knights of Columbus Council 4924 Family of the Year Award; Windsor Police Services Gordon Preston Memorial Award; The Order of Canada; Rotary Club (Paul Harris Club Award); City of Windsor Award; Sertoma Service for Mankind Award; United States Department Certificate of Appreciation Award; Sikh Education and Research Center Service to Mankind Award; MEDA Charitable Trust Award; Confederation Medal 125 Years; the Kiwanis Fellowship Award (Mel Osbourne Award); International Freedom Festival Award; Honorary Doctorate of Law Degree from Assumption University; the Club Richelieu Award; and the Benemerenti Medal from Pope Benedict. Frank"s greatest joy in his life was helping others. He felt blessed in every way and his desire to give back to others was his gratefulness to God. Frank was humble in many ways and although acknowledged by many accolades and awards for his charitable work, he credits the success of his work to his extremely supportive and loving wife Lorraine.
