I have never read these tributes for a decade because I loved my Dad so much and I would start to read and not be able to finish.
He has been gone ten years and a bit. I still sometimes stop in my tracks and a wave of intense grief washes over me. My lighthouse, the peg I hung my coat on. He is with me everyday. I have been thinking about him a lot lately. Losing those we love (and we lost our beloved Michelle White mere months later) , is indeed a shared experience. These tributes I read through today. I was so very lucky indeed to be William Russell White's only daughter and for all those who left tributes, thank you from the bottom of my heart. The man you write about is indeed the man I called Dad. I miss you Dad and hope you have read the letters I have written. X

I'll always remember Christmases growing up, looking to see if Uncle Bill had switched Grandma's NOEL figures around to say LEON. That is a tradition that has carried over into our house too, because it's just not Christmas without it. Such a wonderful sense of humour and a kind heart. It was a privilege to know him and to love and be loved by him. He will be so very, very missed. Much love, Siobhan, Chris and Lennon

I have known Bill since he started work at White Plumbing and Heating Co. Ltd. It wasn't long after that Bill started working with Bob Dixon and formed Dixon and White. Bill was a good Engineer who was honest, meticulous in detail, fair, and reasonable if an alternative solution was proposed all of which made Bill a good Engineer. Lou Panontin, P.Eng. I loved the way Bill laughed when he had a good laugh or made a funny joke. It happened alot in class with Bill. I am sure you know which one I mean. I was a student of his in the energy program at st clair college and I know he will be sadly missed. He had a likeability about him, that made him special in many ways. Then after reading the above, I can see why he was loved and people enjoyed and smiled around him. I was amazed to how smart he was when he talked to our class. I recorded all lectures I had with him and last nite listening to some of them, and hearing that laugh made me smile, yet giving me a heavy heart. My thoughts are with your family and he will not be far in thought for a long time to me. Joanne

Dear White Family: Sorry for Your loss and My deepest sympathy to You all. Bill was the best person I have met at the college. This is hard to write... The man truly cared and I felt I knew him all my life. He just had that way of making one feel at ease and important at the same time. When ever I would see him outside for break I always enjoyed chatting with him. I have six weeks to go and I will graduate. I had Bill as an instructor for the last 2 semesters. I look in the alcove where the stairwell is near his office is and it is hard not seeing him there any more. I do have the memories but I will always miss him. Your Husband, Father, Grandfather was a great man. I doubt I will meet anyone like Bill again. Take care, Glenn Dessario LaSalle, Ontario

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Bill White today.. I was a student of his at St. Clair College and would often see him around the hockey rink.. He always had a smile on his face.. I think you only need two words to describe Bill as a teacher and a person "THE BEST"

I was a teaching colleague of Bill's in Chatham for many years. I cannot really express accurately my feelings about Bill but will try. He was an amazing, unique person--so well rounded in all aspects of life-- so understanding. sympathetic and compassionate to absolutely everyone he met. Each student was truly blessed for having Bill as a teacher. Because, along with his knowledge and passion for his subject, his wonderful sense of humour was always present, always there to ease the situation or just plain make everything 'better'. Everyone loved Bill! It was a privilege for me to have known him. I feel that your family will carry on with his marvelous gift and be so very proud.. with love carole

A colleague. A mentor. A friend. Our offices were next to each other, so I could always hear his voice through the wall. I will miss that voice and that smile, but most of all, his wonderful personality. Gone, but never forgotten. God Bless Bill and his family. Jane Specht, P.Eng. St. Clair College

Linda and family: I have just heard of Bill's passing and I want to express to you my sincere condolences. I had the privilege of serving on the Energy Management Committee of St. Clair's Chatham campus with Bill. I also worked in the same consulting industry with Bill as a Consulting Engineer and President of Wilson, Dario & Associates. Bill was a joyful and uplifting person given to great enthusiasm for all life's possibilities. His love of teaching and his students shone through all that he did for them. It was always a pleasure to meet with Bill and listen to his aspirations for his students and his dreams for their ultimate success. When all is said and done we senior engineers can only strive to leave a legacy of our knowledge to those who follow us. In this respect Bill hit a home run. My warmest wishes of peace be with all of you. Chris Hales

Dear Family of Mr.White, It brings me great sadness to hear of the passing of Mr. William White. He was a great man and mentor always wanting to lend a helpful hand and advice. It didn't really matter what is was you asked him about, he would hear you out even though he had a mountain of work to complete and give his advice. I wish I was able to make it back to Windsor to visit him earlier and to thank him for everything, but I will now in my prayers. He was a great Professor/friend to his students and I can only imagine how amazing he was to his all of family members. I send to all of Mr Whites family my greatest sympathies and condolences about your loss and he will be in my prayers. Sincerely, Kenneth Chow (MET-APD St. Clair '08)

I want to extend my condolences to your entire family, my thoughts and prayers are with you all. Bill was a great man beyond most I have I ever encountered. He helped shape my career and my life being a mentor and good friend. A terrible loss for all that knew Bill. He touched lives beyond what he recognized and was modest in his dealings. I will miss our conversations over coffee and am truely saddened that he was chosen to be taken from this world. Please look to the good, that everyone Bill touched is a better person for knowing him and was blessed with his precense. I suppose now he will never have to step off the course and the sun will always shine on his soul; he will be waiting for us all when we can again meet up with him in the future. My thoughts and prayer are with you all. Sincerely, Dale Edward Haggith

Marge and I are greatly saddened to learn of Bill's passing. Our friendship goes back to Prince of Wales years but increased when we both moved to Riverside in 1959. Along with Al Strachan, we were the three "new guys" in Grade XII at Riverside High and happy memories of all the things we did and said in those high school and university years are flooding back right now. When Marge and I married, Bill was my best man and Linda a bridesmaid. We remember mostly Bill's ever-present sense of humour and creative wit, balanced by a soft, caring side and a love for all things mechanical. We will greatly miss "The Plumber". Rest well, old friend. Love and condolences to Linda, Carrie, John and Stephen. We will see you soon. Scott and Marge McIntire

Dear Linda and family; I just found out from Jay Eyrtel of Bill's sudden passing this news is very saddening and hard to accept. As a student in the first group of M.E.T (energy management) Bill had as students in 1984, you now we (Bill and the 5 grads of,1987) were very close. Bill was not just our teacher he was a friend, mentor, and a man I respected as a student and as a grad. and finally as a co-worker (facility manager at the college until 2009). Even today many of Bill"s lessons about life, being a professional and energy managment still ring in my head.I will miss him. I pray that God is with you at this time. I'm truely sorry and hope you can take comfort in knowing Bill changed for the better the life of many men and women just by knowing him. God Bless, Tom Stokes
