Obituary of Ginetta (Gina) Porfilio
PORFILIO, Ginetta “Gina”
(Nee Iarusso)
101 years. It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of a loving wife, mother, nonna (Mina) and bis-nonna on April 25, 2024 at home surrounded by her adoring family. Born on March 4, 1923 in Agnone, Italy, she later immigrated to Canada in 1953 with her three children to reunite with her husband. Beloved wife of the late Donatantonio (Tony) (2007). Loving and caring mother to Florinda Meret and husband Franco, Biagio (Bill) Porfilio and wife Maria, and the late Frank Porfilio (2011) and wife Diana. Cherished Mammina to Stephanie Donato and husband Joe, Jennifer Meret-Ferrelli and husband Emidio, Laura Guglietta and husband Maurizio, Daniel Porfilio and girlfriend Daniela, and Lisa Porfilio. Dear bis-nonna to Josie Marie and Gianfranco Donato, Ava and Lea Ferrelli, Mia and Gianluca Guglietta. Predeceased by her parents Vincenzo (1993) and Pasqualina (2001) Iarusso. Dear sister to Iolanda Masciotra and the late husband Giovanni (1983). Also survived by many nieces and nephews in Canada, USA and Italy.
As the matriarch, Gina exemplified her love for her family through her amazing cooking, baking and her hometown traditions. Gina worked tirelessly outside the home to help provide for her family. Thank you to Dr. K. DeMarco, Dr. Kennette, social worker Elizabeth, nurses at MET hospital 6th North, and her homecare team, especially Emmanuel and Rochelle, for their compassionate care in Gina’s final days.
