Obituary of Italo Lori
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Italo Lori at the age of 97.
Italo was married to the late Teresa (Lini) for over 69 years and is survived by his daughter, Ginetta (Gina) Lori Riley (late Robert) and granddaughter, Jessica. He is predeceased by his parents Vincenzo and Ginetta (Giachini), his sisters Francesca Marini (Lori), Madalena and brother Adamo. He is survived by his sister Agnese Tassotti and his brother, Alfredo, as well as family in Canada, Italy, Australia and the United States.
Italo was born on July 26, 1926, in Casamurana, Ascoli Piceno, Italy. As the first born, he had a difficult youth in helping to support his family. From his humble beginnings and with prospects of an unsure future, Italo braved the long boat trip to Canada, in 1950, aboard the Vulcania, landing in Halifax, Nova Scotia, then travelling to Windsor, Ontario. With his strong work ethic, determination, and perseverance, he started in the construction industry and soon had his own successful company. His entrepreneurial spirit, along with the support of his loving wife Teresa, enabled them to build a good life. Together, they sponsored over a dozen family members to start their new lives in Canada. His dedication to his family was important to him throughout his life.
Italo had an unbelievable medical history having the resilience to survive over 29 health incidents, serious accidents and injuries. Later in life, Italo enjoyed his vegetable and rose gardens, was proud of his winemaking skills and spent hours woodworking in his workshop. Italo was an avid outdoor sportsman, gaming for rabbit, pheasant, and his annual hunting trips north for deer and moose. A long time member of the Giovanni Caboto Club, he will be sadly missed by his bocciofila team mates.
Many thanks to his long time endocrinologist, Dr. Joseph Shaban, family physician, Dr. Patrick Smith, Dr. Bergeron and the hospice team, para med nurses, care partners and his personal support worker, Domenico Squillaro. If you so choose, donations can be made to Hospice of Windsor or Diabetes Canada.
