Obituary of Daniel Law
Daniel Ying-Kin LAW, age 75, peacefully passed away on June 25, 2023, in the comforting presence of his family. He is survived by his beloved mother Sun-Chang, his cherished wife Dora and his adoring son Joseph. He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings Frank, Alex, Sui, Kathy, Nancy, Kim as well as siblings-in-law Jon and Betty, and the late Ping-Kit.
Daniel’s unwavering dedication to the Windsor-Essex County community was truly remarkable. In 1972, he began working at the Red Sail Restaurant alongside his parents, and over time, became the owner. For over 50 years, he passionately promoted Hong Kong cuisine and culture, leaving a lasting impact on the community. Daniel was a visionary who opened his kitchen to everyone - from elementary school children to culinary students - introducing them to the delights of Chinese cuisine. His affiliation with the Canadian Culinary Federation and the Culinary Guild of Windsor brought him immense pride.
In 1989, Daniel served as the City of Windsor's Ambassador of Goodwill to Fujisawa, Japan. In recognition of his significant contributions to his community, he was awarded the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of Confederation in 1992. He also received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 for his continued and impactful community service.
Cremation has taken place at the request of the family. A memorial visitation will take place at WINDSOR CHAPEL (South Chapel) 3048 Dougall Ave, South Windsor, 519-253-7236, on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 from 9:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am in the chapel. Interment of cremated remains will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. A luncheon will immediately follow at Victoria Greenlawn Funeral Home and Reception Center. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Daniel to one of the following organizations: Windsor Chinese Baptist Church, Essex County Chinese Canadian Association, or Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare.
