Obituary of Marianne Veronika Kling
Passed away suddenly on March 25, 2023 at the age of 82. Born April 18, 1940 in Kukujevci in the former Yugoslavia, youngest of the two children of Johann and Eva Brandelik. The war in Europe and its after-shocks caused her family to flee their home and live for several years in Austria until, in 1953, they immigrated to Canada and settled in Kingsville, Ontario. Marianne moved to Windsor in the early 1960s and lived the rest of her life there, becoming the longtime assistant for 38 years and beloved companion of Windsor lawyer, Sockley Kamin (deceased).
Marianne loved gardening, travelling and lively chats with family and friends, and was a voracious reader with an encyclopedic knowledge of historical events and classical literature. She was a seemingly boundless bundle of energy and those who loved her are devastated by her sudden passing.
Marianne will be deeply missed by her cousin Wendelin Semek and his wife Gisela of Bornitz in Liebschutzberg, Germany and their children and grandchildren, by her “second family” of Mr. Kamin’s children Gerald, Shelley and Lanny and his wife Carol Sparling and their children Rhea, David, and David’s partner Kim, as well as by longtime friend and caregiver Mary Lou St. Louis and her partner Don Venable. She was predeceased by her parents and brother Joseph.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday April 29, 2023 at 11 a.m. from the Windsor Chapel Funeral Home, Central Chapel, 1700 Tecumseh Road East, Windsor, with private inurnment to follow at Greenhill Cemetery in Kingsville, Ontario. Memorial donations may be made to Passionist Missions Canada, Toronto, Ontario, or the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society.
