My deepest condolences to the Gates family and Dick's friends on his passing. Dick and I served together with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RCEME) In Soest, West Germany, from 1964-66. A gifted craftsman, Dick was always one to help and give his opinion on any subject - at any time and anywhere. If he didn't agree with a differing point of view - his one finger sulute was never far away. With Kay at his side, Dick was always the center of attention and the life of a party. But mostly, Dick was liked and respected by all whom he touched. You left your mark and now it's time to RIP. Good-bye my friend. Arte et Marte. Tony Soulis

Our condolences to the family on the loss of Richard. I always referred to Richard as Dick over the 60 years that we knew each other. Dick loved cars. In the pictures taken in Germany 1966 -68 he organised a Jim Cana(sp?) where owners of cars could race around pylons. At one point they had to leave the car. The second picture is of Dick in his Fiat 850 Sports Coupe navigating the course. We were all young soldiers then looking for excitement. Dick and I served in 2 Field Workshop and then again in Germany.In later years we would talk on the phone and he loved going over times in the service. God Bless my old friend. My deepest condolences to the family. Richard was such a pleasure to chat with daily. I loved hearing his stories of traveling, especially his most recent trip to B.C. with his daughter.

It was a pleasure to have met Richard at Oak Park when I was visiting my Aunt Rachel.He always kept an eye on others needing an extra helping hand and kept us on our toes. We discovered that we had both attended the same camp in Bayfield as well! He was always a delight to strike up a conversation with. Blessings and strength to all of you. Jane
