My heart goes out to the family and friends. Mr. Fase was a true family man and very committed to his community. I was one of the fortunate neighbourhood kids that spent hours on the ice rink, which was a safe place. The kindness of the entire family was a true inspiration for kids in the neighborhood who were less fortunate, we were all blessed to have known Mr Fase.

The Brouwer Family wishes to extend our DEEPEST Sympathy in the passing of "Oom Wim Fase". He was a man who always had a smile on his face and a joke to tell you. Whenever I ran into him - he would remind me that he danced with me at my wedding. Cherished Memories that will not be forgotten. Our Mom and Dad have welcomed him to join them in playing cards, singing, drinking and enjoying each others company. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Until we meet again - Thea, Ans, Greg and Families.

Jane - I was saddened to hear of Bill’s passing. I have many fond memories of him and how much he loved to tease me. Every time I saw him he would remind me of the time he put a five pin bowling ball in my purse and waited to see my reaction when I picked up my purse at the end of the evening! I also have memories of the Friday night card games with mom and dad. I enjoyed spending time with the both of you whenever I was home to visit dad and was able to take part in your Friday night dinners.
Although time and distance will prevent us from attending the visitation and service please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family……. Take good care.

Jane and Family
We are so sorry for your loss. My Father had a lot of fond memories with them both coming from Holland on the same ship that he shared with our family many times.
I can also remember the many times that Bill invited the family over for a skate on that huge outdoor rink that Bill constructed every year. Then the countless invites to your home for the annual New Years eve parties and card parties. These are memories that will not be forgotten.
I am sure that my Father and Bill are being re-united and playing a good game of cards.
Unfortunately we are away but know that our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

Condolences from the Breschuk family. Growing up next to Mayfair School on Chandler Rd.. I met Bill about around 1962 - 1964 and growing up we use to skate behind Mayfair School and at the Rawson family home on Alexis Rd. at their ice rink and played hockey there. Bill lived behind the Rawson's home and Bill built an ice rink behind his home with lights and boards around the rink to stop the puck. To us kids this was like the Maple Leaf Gardens compared to what we had and the neighbourhood kids were invited to come and play hockey there or just skate around the rink. Bill loved to play hockey with us and he could skate circles around us and was a great hockey player and stick handler but besides all those things I remember his skates were different then ours and they were like nothing any of us had ever seen before, they were his skates/blades from Holland and they clamped onto his shoes or boots. Bill embraced the kids from our neighbourhood and every year would build this ice rink for all to enjoy. Some 58 years later I still remember this kind and friendly gentleman from our neighbourhood who built memories such as mine. Andy Breschuk

Bill Fase was a very important person in the community that I grew up in. He was an example to all of us of how to be a good person, how to be truly generous and kind, and how to make a difference in your community. He was always looking for a way to be truly useful to people, to use his skills and resources to make the world a better place. Bill was also an extremely likable, funny and fun guy to be around. Thank you to the Fase family for sharing him with us all these years. I believe that many of us who were recipients of the kindness from Bill and Jane are still paying it forward, but even so, it’s the end of an era.

I will never forget the infamous ice rink at the end of our street and the Fase's. Just across the street from Mr. Mike's parking lot and the chicken coop across the street from the ice rink. Those were the days ! ! Grew up there with the Nadeau's and Maurice's on both sides of the corner at Somme. We all used to walk down Somme to Most Precious Blood School or Mayfair School between Chandler and Alexis. Remember collecting pop bottles from the Chrysler workers and buying Hockey cards at Mayfair confectionary on the corner of Alexis and Somme?
RIP Mr. Fase you did well and put smiles on lots of kids faces in that neighbourhood!!
God Bless you and console the grieving Fase family !!

I learnt how to skate on Mr. Fase's ice rinks leading me to enjoy playing the game of hockey. I remember not only the endless hours of playing on the rinks but also the huge thermos of hot chocolate delivered rink side. Fond memories were had by all. A great man.
