Obituary of Nancy Battagello

BATTAGELLO, Nancy L. (nee Deep) Beautiful, lovely and gracious Nancy passed away Saturday, August 27 at the age of 88 following a long, enjoyable and well-lived life. Our much-loved mother and grandmother passed away at home in the grieving company of her family. Pre-deceased by Roy (2005), her beloved husband and life partner of 47 years. Survived by children David and Lisa Schwab (husband Brian). Cherished Nana of six - Hannah, Jacob, Katie and Joe Schwab, plus Aria and Kierra Battagello. Also survived by siblings Albert Deep, Alice Braithwaite (John) and Nellie Abraham, plus numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by her parents Abdo and Annie Deep. Nancy was a proud graduate of the former Patterson Collegiate and University of Western. She was reporter for several years at the Windsor Star at a time when women were not common in the newsroom. She then moved on to CBC Radio in Windsor for several more years where she worked as a morning show and afternoon show host. Nancy was also very involved at the side of Roy over many years helping to guide and advise him through his many political and community contributions, which most prominently included helping to fulfill the dream of uninterrupted and protected riverfront parkland between Ambassador Bridge and Hiram Walker. In her later years, Nancy especially enjoyed attending the local filmfest and bookfest. Just saying thank you is not enough to the amazing Dr. Caroline Hamm for her many years of dedication and assistance in helping keep Nancy well for so long during a lengthy battle with her blood cancer. Also thank you to the many home-care workers who were so valuable in assisting with her pain. There will be no funeral service. Interment will be at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. Details of a special memorial service for Nancy for her family and friends will be shared. Arrangements being handled by Windsor Chapel Funeral Home, 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E.
