Obituary of Wanda W. Galinski

GALINSKI, Wanda (nee Milewska)

January 18, 1928 – September 7, 2021

Passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Huron Lodge, at the age of 93. Beloved wife of the late Andrew Galinski (2008). Loving mother of Stan, of Windsor, late Mary Anne (2012) and surviving husband Bob Crocker, of B.C., Patricia and late husband Les Wardrop (2018), of Toronto, and Christine Galinski, of Kitchener. Cherished grandmother of Andrew, Peter, baby Katryn (2007), and Michelle. Great-grandmother of Grayson and another on the way. Dear Aunt of Krystyna Jacyna, of Gdansk, Poland, and Jan Galinski, of Zyrardow, Poland. Daughter of the late Wladyslaw and Agata Milewski (nee Kowalska). Predeceased by her siblings Zofia (1967) and Henryk (a soldier in the Home Army, The AK, killed August 1944 by the German occupiers during the Warsaw Uprising).

Wanda endured the German occupation of Warsaw during WWII and her subsequent internment in several labour camps in Germany and Austria. She immigrated to Canada alone in 1948 with the help of the Red Cross and U.N.R.A. She worked in Montreal as a seamstress where she met Andrew. They married in Windsor in 1951 and started their family together. Wanda was a member of the Holy Trinity Polish Catholic Church. She worked at the Deli at Steinburg's in Windsor and various other Deli’s over the years. She also worked in CSR and the physiotherapy department at MET Hospital and was a Red Cross volunteer. Wanda and Andrew loved to travel the world together, doing bus tours around North America and Europe and could never explain to her children how the bus crossed the ocean. Mama was an avid reader. She had a fabulous memory and a wicked sense of humor, specializing in sarcasm, which was unfortunately passed on to her children. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A special thank you to Huron Lodge for their care and compassion during her difficult year and we wish you had started playing BINGO earlier.
