Obituary of Lauri Salonen

SALONEN, Lauri “Lapa” Erik
November 23, 1943 - July 30, 2021
It is with a deep, profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lauri Salonen on July 30, 2021 at the age of 77 years. He was born in Lahti, Finland and was one of 14 siblings. As a young man, he earned his Bachelor Degree in Architecture and he emigrated to Canada in 1968, where he met his beautiful wife Gizella. They wed in Windsor in 1974 and welcomed their first child, Sonya in 1980 and their son Sean in 1985. His family was the center and pride of his life; he was a devoted and caring father and husband. He worked in design with several architectural firms in the Windsor area, on projects that included structural engineering, building construction and development. He was passionate about current events and by the lake amongst the trees is where he was happiest. Spending time with his family made him smile and he loved to make them laugh. He was predeceased by his mother, father, two sisters and two brothers, but he will be perpetually missed by his beloved Gizella, his adoring little girl Sonya and her husband Brian, his son Sean, of whom he was immensely proud, and his wife Maj, and the lights of his life, his grandchildren, Jonah, Isla, Bodhi, Finlay and Molly. He will be remembered fondly by his remaining four brothers, five sisters and many nieces, nephews and friends. We will hold him close in our memory while we continue to walk our earthly journey without him, until we meet again. Visitation at Windsor Chapel (Banwell Chapel) 11677 Tecumseh Rd. E. (519) 253-7234 on Wednesday, August 4th, 2021 from 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm. A Funeral Mass to honour Lauri will be held on Thursday, August 5th, 2021 at 10:00am at Our Lady of the Atonement Church (2940 Forest Glade Dr., Windsor). Interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Reservations are required to attend the Funeral Mass. Please call Windsor Chapel between the hours of 8:30am and 4:00pm to secure your reservation. Masks are required to attend the visitation, Funeral Mass and Cemetery Service. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
