Obituary of Robert Vanderveen

It is with grieving hearts that we announce the passing of Robert (Wobbe) Van Der Veen on May 24, 2021 at the age of 89. He passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving wife Margaret after a lengthy battle with Dementia and Prostate Cancer. He is with the Lord now and is free from pain. Robert is survived by his wife Margaret, former wife Brenda and their children Christine (John), the late Steven (Katherine), Karen (Alex) and David (Deanna). Step-daughter Nancy and the late Sandra (Diane). Loving Brother to the late Bia (the late Bernard), William (Jenny), Roelie (the late Alex). Proud Opa to Amanda (Jamie), Nathaniel (Shannon), Kelson, Kaedin. Also Marissa, Madison, Dawn, Jennifer, and Johnathan. Great-Opa to many including Cole, Melia, Elliot, and Arlo. Bob will also be greatly missed by many friends. He was always available and ready to help. He enjoyed a good laugh and was usually the life of the party. He could often be found singing or playing music and loved to dance. Bob came to Canada from the Netherlands at the age of 18 with his brother Bill and was always proud of his Dutch heritage. Bob was a regular member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 35 years and it was a big part of his life. He was known to mentor and support others along their sobriety journey. He loved animals and had a tender spot for his dogs in particular. He continued to take them on walks until he was no longer physically able to. His Beloved dog Angel was at his side when he drew his last breath. I'm sure he felt comfort in knowing she was there. We’d like to thank the people of Chateau Park Long-Term Care Center for their care and compassion as well as the many PSW's, Nurses, Doctors and other Health Care Professionals that have been part of Bob's care. Due to Covid19 restrictions, Bob will be cremated at this time and a Memorial service and interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Windsor Essex County or to the Windsor Prostate Cancer Support Group, 1545 Maple Ave. LaSalle ON N9J 3L3. Arrangements entrusted to Windsor Chapel Funeral Homes 519-253-7234, online condolences and cherished memories may be shared with his family at www.windsorchapel.com.
