Obituary of Ettorina Fiorido

FIORIDO, Ettorina (nee Palaziol)
Born in Valle d'Istria, Pola, Italy on July 23, 1930. It is with broken hearts that our family announces the peaceful passing of Ettorina, a loving Mother, Nonna and Bis-Nonna, on May 7, 2021 at the age of 90. Reunited with her beloved husband Giuseppe "Beppo" Fiorido (2013). Loving mother to Dennis Fiorido (Vivian) and Devis Fiorido (Josée). Cara nonna to Michela, Zachary, Jordan (Helen) and Erica (Adam) and bis-nonna to Everett and Ivy Ettorina. Dear sister to Irene, Nives  and Anna Maria. Dear sister in-law to Alda, Arduino, and the late Fioretto, Stelio, Piera, and Domenico. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Ettorina was a well respected travel agent working for Dante Travel throughout the years. She was a founding member and long-time teacher of the Italian language school at the Giovanni Caboto Club and a member of the Giovanni Caboto Club, Italian Women's Auxiliary for over 65 years. In her younger years. Ettorina served as the secretary at St.Angela Merici Church and was very active in the St. Angela Merici and St. Theresa Church Choirs in her later years. She will be remembered for being a vibrant and determined woman who had a generous heart, loved singing and music, and made everyone smile. She left her spirited imprint in the community and will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege and honour of knowing her.  Ettorina maintained her strong ties to her home town of Valle.  She was very active on Facebook and in particular, she was a strong contributor to the Valle d'Istria Fan Club.  She often acted as the senior go-to source for clarification regarding family connections, identifying people in old photographs, historical context, and a language/dialect resource to explain words and meanings. She wrote many poems and some of these were published in books that provided readers with a sense of what  refugees and immigrants, like Ettorina, felt after being forced to leave their land and settle in Italy after WWII, and then if they chose to, immigrate to other parts of the world. She was also a strong contributor to a book that served as a Italian-Vallese (their dialect) dictionary which was published. This is all a strong part of her legacy and desire to inform descendants from Valle of its rich culture, simple way of life, and proud heritage, so that it is never forgotten.
