Obituary of Tommaso Nardone

It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear, sweet beloved husband, father and Nonno, in his 90th year, at home, as he wished, with his loving family surrounding him. Loving, kind and devoted husband to Ida, with whom he shared 61 beautiful years of marriage. Loving father to Salvatore and Leanne, Tony and Gillian, Rita and Claudio LaCivita. Most cherished Nonno to Courtenay and Matthew, Nadya, Lucas, Dante, Aaron and Justin. Born in Cassino, Italy to Salvatore and Vincenza, he is also predeceased by his infant sister Tommasina, brother Pietro, and sister, Benedetta Minutillo. Survived by his sister Anna (Innocenzo), sister in-law Marcella and brother in-law Giuseppe and Ida Terenzi. Tommaso is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends in Canada, Italy, France, and the U.S., all of whom loved him dearly. Tommaso immigrated from Italy, after having witnessed WWII as a teenager, so as to find prosperity and opportunity. He spent many years in the gold mines of northern Ontario and, once established, returned to Italy to marry his bride, Ida. Together, they built a life and created a family. Most important to Tommaso was spending time with his family and friends. He was a kind and gentle soul. While he and Ida spent many years as the proprietors of the Olympia Variety on University Avenue from the 1970’s to 2000, they extended their kindness to many students , professors and families in the neighbourhood who needed to “put it on the tab”. The Olympia was a landing spot for many of the neighbourhood kids who knew Tommaso as “Pappa Nardone”. He was a proud member of the Ciociaro Club of Windsor. During his retirement Tommaso enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his family and friends and also enjoyed gardening and being by the lake. Tommaso had a curious mind and was always wanting to learn more. He taught us so much about life, leading by example and living by the golden rule. He will be forever in our hearts. A special thank you to Dr. Geoff Butler, Dr. Tom Deklaj, Dr. Kitty Huang, and Dr. Tom Burgess for their care and compassion. The family would also like to thank the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County, the cancer clinic, as well as PSWs Spumenka and Joe. Visitation at WINDSOR CHAPEL (Banwell Chapel) 11677 Tecumseh Rd.
