Obituary of Pietro Danelon

DANELON, Pietro “Peter” June 29, 1925 - August 31, 2019 We are saddened to announce the passing of Peter on Saturday, August 31, 2019. He leaves his wife, Luigia (Piagno), the love of his life, after having just celebrated 70 years of marriage. Beloved father of Dennis (Emily) and Lori Smith (Rick Armstrong) and cherished nonno of Michael, Mark (Tania), David (Monique) and Jen Hart (Jon). Proud bisnonno of Paolo, Sabrina, Alexis, Noemi and Eric. Dear uncle of Roy Piagno (Wava), Yvette Zemora (Augustin 2006) and Susie Tussut (Angelo) of Italy and sister-in-law, Regina Piagno. Peter, or Bepi, as he was known to many, was born 94 years ago in Savorgnano (Pordenone), Italy. Like many immigrants of his era, he worked hard to make Canada a wonderful new home for his family. He integrated into a new culture while preserving his heritage by making his own wine and sausages, tending to his garden and becoming a proud member of the Fogolar Furlan Club of Windsor. Peter retired from the City of Windsor Public Works Department with his latter years being spent in the carpentry division. A true handyman, he spent countless hours tinkering in his garage. He was an avid hunter and fisherman all of his life. His proudest “catch” was not landing a prize fish, but saving the life of a drowning six year old with the help of his brother-in-law, Augusto Piagno (2011). This heroism was formally recognized by then Premier William Davis. After retiring, taxidermy became a hobby and now everyone in the family is the proud owner of one of his creations! Bepi will now be joining his former card partners in Heaven, Gino (2000) and Noemi (2016) Sivilotti. Special thanks to Dr. Frank DeMarco and the late Dr. DeMarco Sr. for their many years of dedicated care. The family would also like to extend their most sincerest appreciation to all of Peter‘s recent caregivers at HDH, Dolce Vita and WRH Met Campus 5th floor nurses and attending physicians for all their assistance and professional care. Honouring Peter‘s request, a private family viewing has taken place. Friends and family are asked to gather at St. Angela Merici Church (980 Louis Ave) on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 for visitation from 9:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am. Private entombment to follow. In kindness and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Ronald McDonald House of Windsor-Essex County or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.windsorchapel.com Funeral arrangements entrusted to Windsor Chapel Funeral Home, 1700 Tecumseh Road, East, 519-234-7234.
