Obituary of Steve Barcic

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steve Barcic at the age of 91, on December 7th, to be reunited with his loving wife Barbara (2013) in heaven. Steve is the cherished father of John and wife Zeljka and adored Deda of Angela, Stefanie and Natalie. Steve was born in Podrebar, Bosilijevo, Croatia to parents Janko and Ljuba Barcic (nee Umolac). He was predeceased by his siblings Ljuba Kovacic and Ivan Barcic. Steve will be dearly missed by Slavka (Josip-2018 and Nancy-1978) Korenic, and Mira and Josip Pulez and their families, and dear friends and in-laws Lovro and Andela Crep. Steve will also be fondly remembered by family and friends in both Canada and Croatia. Steve came to Canada in 1958 and worked in the gold mines in Timmins. He and Barbara married in 1960 and their son was born in 1961. In 1963, Steve moved his family to Windsor and was an employee at Dominion Forge for 7 years and later Chrysler Canada for 25 years, where he worked until retirement. Steve was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Croatian Church and an active member of the Church Council for many years. Steve was a generous, hard working man who was dedicated to his family. He was proud to be a Canadian and very proud of his Croatian heritage. A heartfelt thank you to the staff at Aspen Lake, Riverside, for all their dedicated care and support, over the years. Visitation at WINDSOR CHAPEL (Banwell Chapel) 11677 Tecumseh Rd. E. 519-253-7234 on Friday, December 11, 2020 from 2-6pm. Parish prayers at 4:30pm. Funeral Mass on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 11am at St. Francis of Assisi Croatian Catholic Church (1701 Turner Rd). Interment to follow at Windsor Memorial Gardens. Reservations are required to attend the visitation and funeral Mass. Please call Windsor Chapel at 519.253.7234 between the hours of 8:30am and 4:00pm to book your time spot. Masks must be worn at all times while in the funeral home, church and cemetery. If so desired, donations in memory of Steve may be made to the St. Francis of Assisi Croatian Catholic Church Building Fund or the Parkinson Society of Southwestern Ontario.
