Obituary of Mario Joseph Gatti

GATTI, Mario Joseph Passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 25, 2018 at Oak Park Terrace Lasalle at the age of 92. Reunited with his wife and love Eliza (nee Colautti 1991), parents Domenico (1975) and Augusta (nee Brunetta 1993), brothers Domenico (2003) and Armand (2014). Loving father of Christopher (Jackie), Steven (Cheryl) and Peter. Cherished grandfather of Karrie Maine (Sean), Lauren MacDermid (Brent), Christina, Eric (Krista) and Ashleigh. Adored great-grandfather of Joshua, Julia, Jordan, Darius, Peyton, Lorelei, Christopher, Kailee, Caira, Logan and Addison. Survived by kid brother Al and sister in-laws Kathy and Maria. Dear uncle of Anita, Dante, Andrea, Ricky, Rudy, Tommy and Michael. Mario was born in Italy on September 25, 1925 and came to Canada in 1935. Learning English after arriving in Canada, he became a prolific amateur athlete, playing football, basketball and baseball throughout the 1940"s, playing for the MacKay"s Cardinals in the Fraternal Softball League and for Motor Products. In 1947, he played in the Ontario Amateur Basketball Association Finals. After a severe shoulder injury, his participation in sports was narrowed to bowling, which he excelled at. He married Eliza in 1951, and worked at both Motor Products and Ford in Windsor as a tool and die tradesman until he retired to take care of his wife in 1989. Over the years bowling, he threw several 300 games, one in a Pro-Am tournament and his last one in October of 1998, when he was 73 years of age. A die hard Toronto Maple Leaf"s and Detroit Tiger"s fan, Mario was well known for a celebratory phone call to opposing team fans when the Leafs or Tigers won, but when receiving a call after a teams loss, he would reply with "Oh, I didn"t see the game." Visitation at WINDSOR CHAPEL (Central Chapel) 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. 519-253-7234 on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 3-5pm and 7-9pm. Funeral service on Monday, January 29, 2018 at 10:30 am in the Chapel. Interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
