Obituary of Ilija Gasic

Ilija was born on June 17, 1936 in Vidosevici Travnik, Bosna, Hrvatska and passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 1, 2017 at 81 years of age in Windsor, Ontario. Beloved husband to Katica (nee Barsic) with whom he shared 48 years of marriage. Loving father of the late Anita (1970), Sandy Pupatello and husband Vince and Jadranka Novak and husband Ted "Tadija". Cherished Dida of Jakov, Juliana, Lucija, Maia, Leia and Nina. Predeceased by his parents Ivo and Kata Gasic. Dear brother of Ana Marovic and late husband Mato of Croatia, Ljuba Bozic and husband Luka of Courtice, Ontario and the late Anto Gasic. Brother-in-law of Maca Mrzljak and husband Josip and Barka Skrtic and late husband Franjo. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and other extended family. Ilija immigrated to Canada in 1966 where he met his wife and started their beautiful family in Vancouver. The family then moved to London, Ontario where he was an employee of General Motors Diesel London and retired after 22 years of dedicated service. He was also a member of CAW- TCA Local 222 London, Ontario. Ilija was a lifelong member of the Croatian Catholic Church and most recently St. Francis of Assisi Croatian Catholic Church. Above all, his unwavering love and devotion to his family will be cherished forever. A special thank you to the ICU staff at Windsor Regional Hospital -Ouellette Campus especially Lisa Pannunzio for your outstanding care and compassion. Visitation will be held at WINDSOR CHAPEL (South Chapel) 3048 Dougall Avenue, 519-253-7234 on Wednesday October 4, 2017 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Prayers Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service on Thursday October 5, 2017 at 9:45 a.m. from the Funeral Home then to St. Francis of Assisi Croatian Catholic Church for Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Entombment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to honour Ilija"s life may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Croatian Catholic Church or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
