Obituary of Derek Salonen

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing dear Derek, at the age of 38 years. Loving father of Mya Diane and beloved son of Heikki Salonen (Arja) and the late Diane Salonen (2011). Dear brother of Tanja Mortyn (Joel) and their children Otto, Poppy, Felix and Sadie; Christa Lipe (Jon) and their children Alivia, Niina and Lulabelle; and Sarina Fetters (Jacob) and their children, Tate, Vivi and June. Also, many aunts, uncles, cousins, neaces, nephews and many friends who loved and supported him during his earthly trials. All who have been involved with his journey, especially in these latter years, will FOREVER hold an extra special place in their hearts His family remembers how proud he was when his sweet daughter, Mya was born and they were together in the hospital to celebrate her arrival. Derek spent many years as a sheet metal worker and worked in various provinces throughout Canada. Derek's kindness, contagious laugh, extreme loyalty and gift with all children will forever be remembered. Derek was raised as a Christian in the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church and was taught about the way to Heaven. The spark of faith that flickered in him during his earthly battles will help carry his family through in the days ahead. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9 For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living. Interment will be held on Monday, September 28, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Memorial Cemetery, Livonia, MI. With graveside service at 12pm.
