Obituary of Katherine Leskiw (nee: Popowich)

Passed away peacefully, on September 9, 2020, with her daughter by her side. “Kay” was the beloved wife and soulmate of 65 years to the late Walter Leskiw (2011). She was treasured and will be deeply missed by her cherished and loving daughter, Andrea Leskiw. Born in Western Ukraine, predeceased by her parents, Julian (1990), Parania (1991), and her brother Bill (2009). Closest cousin of Lesia Bosy and Mary Klymas. Compassionate cousin of Steve (Larysa) Andrusiak. Katherine adored all of her Godchildren. Dear friend of Sue Lalonde. She was blessed by her former Avondale neighbours. With gratitude to Dr. Wallace Liang and staff for their exceptional care throughout the years. Many thanks to Seasons’ management and staff, especially Brenda, for their loving care. Due to her extraordinary attributes, she was honoured as the Most Remarkable Resident. Heaven will welcome Katherine with her legacy of devotion, love, generosity, her incredible smile, and gorgeous operatic voice to join the Angels’ Choir. She toured Canada and the United States, performing Ukrainian Operas, as well as performing with her daughter at various events. She was first violinist in the Ukrainian Toronto Symphony, an adroit public speaker, and the most magnificent cook. Katherine was exceptionally active in the Ukrainian Women’s Organization and Ukrainian National Federation (Toronto, and Windsor), Ukrainian Business and Professional Association, organizer of costumes and performances of the Echoes of Ukraine Dance Ensemble, committee member of the Council of Women, and a parishioner of Sts.
