Obituary of Giovanni Fantin

Passed away peacefully at home on April 21, 2016 at the age of 92 years. Beloved husband of Lidia (nee Facca) with whom Giovanni celebrated 68 years of marriage. Loving father to Amelio and Dennis (Lorna). Adored nonno of Melissa (Jason), Tania (Abe), Cristina (Ryan), Nick (Nicole), and Alyssa (Jason). Great great-grandfather of Taylor, Cole, Taylor, and Madelynn. Giovanni was born in Pordenone, Cordenons, Italy and was predeceased by his parents Luigi and Maria (nee Vivanda). He served in the Italian Military, the Alpini Division. Giovanni was a brother to Gigiuta (the late Angelo), Clelia, the late Mario (Anna), the late Amelio, and brother-in-law to the late Sante, Matilde, the late Luigia (the late Basilio), the late Ida (the late Tony), the late Antionetta (the late Luigi), and the late Gino. Giovanni is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews in Canada, USA, and Italy. He will be missed by his beloved beagle, Charlie. Giovanni immigrated to Canada in 1949 and was a dedicated employee of the Essex Terminal Railroad for 40 years. He was a long standing member of the Giovanni Caboto Club. He was an avid gardener and known for growing huge beefsteak tomatoes. He enjoyed his long visits and crab fishing in Florida. Special thanks to Dr. Gary Ing and staff who made regular home visits and to all the Bayshore, St. Elizabeth, CCAC nurses, and Fr. Adriano. Visitation will be held at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Main Chapel) 1700 Tecumseh Rd E, 519.253.7234 on Sunday, April 24 from 3-5 and 7-9. Parish Prayers at 4:30pm. Funeral Service will be held Monday, April 25 at 8:45am from the Funeral Home to St. Angela Merici Church for Funeral Mass at 9:30am. Cremation will follow.
