Obituary of Lorenzo Alfini

ALFINI, Lorenzo June 13, 1923 " June 6, 2015 Born in Ceccano, Frosinone, Italy. Passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his adoring family at the blessed age of 91. Loving husband of Giuseppina (nee Silvaggi) with whom he shared 64 wonderful years of marriage. Devoted father to Ida & Franco Mancini, Angelo & Kathy Alfini, and Adriano & Tiziana Alfini. Treasured Nonno of Tessa & Mario Ruggirello, David Mancini, Lorenzo & Darcie, Alaina, Kristina, Samantha, and Adam Alfini. Proud Bis-Nonno and Guardian Angel to Isabella and Luca Ruggirello and Alessio Alfini. Beloved son of the late Alfredo & Vittoria (nee Tiberia) and son-in-law of the late Pasquale & Gaetana (nee Diana) Silvaggi. Cherished brother-in-law to Lino & Angela Silvaggi, Ivo & Nella Civiero, Vittorio Pidutti, Lorenzo & Santina Silvaggi, Marianna Alfini, and Maria Teresa Alfini. Brother to Luigi (Enrica) and Rita (Angelino) Tiberia. Predeceased by brothers Giuseppe and Angelino and sister Teresa (Albino) Rizzato; Luigi Silvaggi, Angelina Silvaggi, Giovanni (Edda) Silvaggi, Aldo (Lilliana) Silvaggi, and his dear sister-in-law Francesca Pidutti. Zio Lorenzo will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. A veteran of World War II, Lorenzo served in the elite 13th Infantry Division Re. In 1952, Lorenzo immigrated to Canada with his new bride and together they began to make a life for their family. He was a co-founder and operator of Alfini Brothers Painting & Decorating for many years. He was a long-time member of the Ciociaro Club of Windsor and worked there until his retirement in 1988, at which time he became the official chauffeur to his grandchildren, driving them to and from school. Lorenzo was an avid soccer fan who loved his team Lazio and never missed a game with his friends on Erie Street. His love of music was evident, as he could often be heard singing Claudio Villa songs with the love of his life, Peppina. Many thanks for the wonderful care he received from Drs. Freeman, Chow, Cargill, Askew, and Stresman; Nurses Shannon, Scott, Jolene, Alicia, Sheron, Brittany, Lindsey, (WRH-7W) Shevon (CCAC), Brandon, Justin, Gina, and Abdul (Bayshore). Visiting at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Main Chapel) 519-253-7234, 1700 Tecumseh Road East on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Prayers at 4:30 p.m. Funeral Services on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 10:15 a.m. from the funeral home then to St. Angela Merici Church for Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Entombment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Lorenzo"s honour to the Hospice of Windsor & Essex County.
