Obituary of Sergio Pontoni

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sergio Pontoni, a loving husband, father and nonno on November 16, 2014. Sergio was born on August 23, 1933 in Cjarpenet (Pz.d.Fr., Udin), Fri"l (Italy) and was the eighth and youngest child of Luigi Pontoni and Gemma Zanini. He is survived by his wife Renata Bucciol with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage, his children: Nadia (Alan), Andrea (Sandra), and Stefano Pontoni; and his treasured grandchildren: Sabreena, Alessandra, and Matteo Pontoni, Gemma and Loris Fontanin. He is survived by his sister Anita and many relatives throughout Europe and Canada, and predeceased by his siblings: Duilio, Li Cinio, Elvira, Iolanda, Giuseppe, and Vellino. Sergio embodied the wonderful Friulian traits and values of strength, intelligence, hard work and humility which served as a great example to his family. He was a voracious reader, prolific traveler, passionate gardener, bocce player, and wine maker. Sergio loved cultural pursuits and was an admirer of Bocelli, Buti, Chaplin, Da Vinci, Di Stefano and Pavarotti. He was also an avid supporter of his beloved Udinese and Azzurri soccer clubs. While proud of his heritage, he was also a proud Canadian, and as a young man discovered many corners of Canada by living and working as a skilled tradesman in Halifax, Prince Edward Island, Cape Breton, Winnipeg, Toronto and finally Windsor where he worked for Ford Motor Company and was a member of the Fogolar Furlan Club. He will be honoured and remembered during visitation at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Main Chapel) 519-253-7234 1700 Tecumseh Rd. East on Wednesday November 19, 2014 from 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm. Parish prayers Wednesday at 4:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 10:00 am from the funeral home then to Our Lady of Perpetual Help for Words of Remembrance at 10:45 am followed by Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Entombment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. Donations in memory of Sergio may be made to Windsor Essex County Cancer Centre Foundation.
