Obituary of Robert Cunningham Brew

Brew, Robert Cunningham (Bobby) Passed away peacefully Oct. 21, 2014 surrounded by family. Born in Windsor, Feb. 18, 1930. Son of Thomas and Clara Brew, Brother to Thomas (Marieta) and Eileen (all deceased). Husband to Barbara for 58 years. Exemplary father to Melody (Paul), Debbie (Steve), Bobby (Alodie), and Michel. Adored grandfather to Gillian, Max, Albert, Charles, Alexandre, and Louis. Devoted uncle to Tom (Diane), Sheila (deceased), Kathleen (Richard), Susan (Aiden), Lori (Frank), and Michael (Michelle). Step grandfather to Dave, Evan, Olivia and Adam (Deceased). Loved by a close knit extended family including brother-in -law, Donald (Marion) and sister-in-law, Lois (Robert). Profoundly loyal friend to so many; especially Vern Peifer, and countless other musicians and colleagues. Past President of The Purchasing Management Association of Canada, Essex Kent District, The Ontario Association of School Business Officials, The Ontario Educational Buyers Association. Bob retired as Purchasing Manager for the Windsor Board of Education after 41 years. Served as a representative on the Board of the Ontario Association of Educational Administrative Officials, a Director with the Windsor Regional Children"s Centre, the Windsor Board of Education, and the Windsor Federation of Musicians. He was recipient of many local awards from the Optimists Club of Windsor "Service to the Community", the Windsor Goodfellows Club "Appreciation Award", and the Downtown Windsor Lions Club. He held Professional Purchasing Certification from the Purchasing Management Association of Canada and from the Ontario Institute. He was certified a Supply Chain Management Professional. The Professional Public Purchasing Officer Designation from the Universal Public Purchasing Certification Council and the Senior Level Purchasing Designation from the Government of Canada. Bob was a member of the Royal Canadian Naval Association of Canada, Senior member of the Windsor Yacht Club, a Life Member of the Windsor Federation of Musicians and an Honourary Life Member of the Purchasing Management Association of Canada. Certainly, Bobby was best known for his contributions to the music community in the Greater Windsor"Detroit area. An active musician for over 70 years, he was inducted into the Windsor Essex County Musicians Hall of Fame. Some of the musical groups he formed include: Bobby Brew and his Orchestra, The Dalhousie Street Paraders, The Daisyville Marching Band (of "Oopsy the Clown" TV show fame), and the original I.O.O.B. Orchestra. He loved his grandchildren so much and hoped he could live to witness their accomplishments. They all are blessed with an abundance of God given talent. Bob credits his success to the support of his wife, Barbara. She has been his angel caring for him to the end. He also thanks his doctors, Patrick Smith, and George Wong. His family thanks the wonderful 6th floor nursing staff and doctors of Windsor"s Metropolitan Hospital. Visitation at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME ( Banwell Chapel ) 519-253-7234 11677 Tecumseh Rd E. on Thursday October 23, 2014 from 7-9pm, Friday October 24, 2014 from 2-5pm and 7-9pm. A Funeral service will be held on Saturday October 25, 2014 at 10:00am in the Chapel. Interment Victoria Memorial Gardens.
