Obituary of Douglas "Doug" Neil Walton

With deep sadness, we mourn the passing of a dear husband, friend and colleague, Douglas Walton. Doug was the Distinguished Research Fellow at the Centre for Research in Reasoning, Argumentation and Rhetoric (CRRAR) at the University if Windsor, and an adjunct professor in the Department of Philosophy. As a scholar of international renown, he produced almost 60 books and hundreds of essays. His work was important on more fronts than can be enumerated here, establishing the groundwork on which several generations of scholars have continued to build and setting the research agendas for generations of scholars to come. In spite of this international reputation, he is remembered as a man of deep humility, generous with his time and expertise and eager to mentor young minds. Those who knew him well count themselves fortunate and will continue to be inspired by the tremendous legacy he leaves behind. He leaves his wife of 52 years, Karen. A celebration of his life will take place at WINDSOR CHAPEL (Central Chapel) 1700 Tecumseh Rd E, 519.253.7234 on Thursday, January 9, 2020 from 1 to 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions are invited to The Douglas N. Walton Scholarship Fund at the University of Windsor.
