Obituary of John Kolks

KOLKS, John Passed away peacefully on March 17, 2014 at Hotel Dieu Hospital. Loving husband of Kay for 58 years. Cherished father of Pauline (Kevin) Simpson, Cindy (David) Kibble and Ted (Linda) Kolks. Loving grandpa of Devon, Craig, Chris, Hilary, Robert, Neil and Jeffrey. Predeceased by his parents Theodore and Pauline Kolks. Dear brother of Miep Beijer and predeceased by his brother William Kolks and sister Betsy Heuvels. John will be deeply missed by his nephew William (Joanna) Beijer and great nieces Anita and Elisa. John established and directed the Occupational Therapy Department at Hotel Dieu Hospital from 1963 until his retirement in 1994. He was a strong and compassionate advocate for individuals with mental health disorders, particularly schizophrenia. John will also be remembered by his involvement with community services including Goodwill Industries, Iris House and the Salvation Army. When you couldn"t find John at work, you could find him tending his garden, having a picnic at Point Pelee, tinkering in his workshop or enjoying the heat and sun at his second home in Florida. Family and friends are invited to join the family on Wednesday March 19, 2014 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church (4401 Mt Royal Dr, Windsor) for visitation from 10:00a.m. until time of funeral mass at 11:00a.m. Entombment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Iris House of Windsor or The Friends of Point Pelee.
