Obituary of Robert Albert Charbonneau

CHARBONNEAU, Fr. Robert Albert Father Bob passed away peacefully in his sleep at his Brentwood home on September 17, 2013. Fr. Bob was born August 27, 1927 in LaSalle, ON. Son of Alphy Charbonneau and Anna Gignac. Predeceased by his brother Leonard in 2005 (Evelyn Johnson, 2006) and his brother Fr. Paul Charbonneau on March 22, 2010. Fr. Bob is survived by his sister, Helen Pratt (Gordon, 1994) Windsor, his cousin Clare Bernhard, Arizona, Sister Mary Charbonneau snjm, Windsor, Sybill B"langer, Windsor, and Sondra Pesta, California. He is also survived by twelve nieces and nephews and their families. Fr. Bob was ordained on May 30, 1953. He celebrated 60 years as a priest this past spring. After ordination, Fr. Bob served at many parishes in the Diocese of London: Christ the King, St. Joseph, Immaculate Conception in Windsor. He then served the clustered parishes of Bothwell, Glencoe & Wardsville and returned to Windsor to serve at St. Vincent de Paul, Blessed Sacrament, St. Patrick, Sacred Heart, and St. John Vianney. Fr. Bob entered the recovery program at Brentwood in 1980. He worked at Brentwood for many years until 1991, in particular with the women's support group. Fr. Bob moved to St. Mary's, Maidstone and contributed to the parish until his recent move to Brentwood in July. Fr. Bob was grateful and blessed to be able to spend his last few months surrounded by the love, respect and friendship of his Brentwood family. Visitation will be held at St. Mary's, Maidstone, on Thursday, September 19, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with parish prayers at 7 p.m. Visitation at Brentwood on Friday, September 20, 2013 from 12 noon to 7 p.m. with prayers at 4 p.m. On Saturday, September 21, 2013 visitation from 9 a.m. to 10:45 at Brentwood with Words of Reflection at 10:45 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Eugene Larocque and fellow priests. Private family interment at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Main Chapel) 519-253-7234 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. The family would appreciate memorial donations in honour of Fr. Bob be made to Brentwood Recovery Home or the Downtown Mission. Envelopes will be available at St. Mary's and Brentwood.
