Obituary of Andrew Valentine Switzer

SWITZER- Andrew Valentine, Born February 5, 1914 in Cana, Saskatchewan, died peacefully May 3, 2013 at Banwell Gardens. Dear beloved "Uncle" of Jim, Anne (Frazie) Winters and Randy, Andrea, Dennis and Margaret, Ken and Barb, Greg and Anne, Karen and Chris Fairbairn, Frank and Eleanor, and Theresa Boles. Uncle was the remaining link in his family chain living in his 100th year. He will be welcomed home by his parents, Adam and Julia (Nee Simon), sister, Annie and brothers, Alec and Jean, Frank and Theresa, Barney and Edna, Joseph and Elise and youngest brother John. One great nephew awaits him heaven, Jamie Winters. He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews. Uncle was a World War II Veteran serving in Holland and Belgium, where he learned to be a mechanic. This prepared him for his life work as an auto mechanic. He worked for many years at Walt Lazar's Chev and Olds dealership in Lincoln Park, Michigan. We will miss Uncle's wit and humor, the twinkle in his eye, his whistling, his kind and patient demeanor, his ability to tinker and fix anything mechanical, and we'll remember all the fun time adventures he took us on when we were young. Growing up in this Switzer family meant we all had a second Dad, his name was "Uncle". A special thank you to Jill Lisinski for her many years of loving care and devotion to her "man". She delighted in his stories, his funny little quirks and mannerisms. Sincere thanks to the kind and caring staff at Banwell Gardens who kept Uncle safe, happy and well fed. I'm sure they will miss his "Hello , Hello and Okeedokee" Relatives and friends are requested to gather at St. John Vianney Church (385 Dieppe Street) on Tuesday May 7, 2013 from 9:30am until time of funeral mass at 10:30am. Interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to Canadian Food for Children.
