I had the good fortune to meet Joan about a year ago, and saw her on several occasions. She struck me as a kind, loving person - definitely the foundation of her family. My wife and I had the pleasure of her company during her last public outing, and despite her worsening condition, she never made anyone feel like they needed to act in a guarded fashion. I know how much she will be missed by her husband and children, and I only hope that the many memories of her loving disposition will bring the family some comfort. Joan, it was a pleasure and a privilege to have known you.
