D"hondt, Leon Achiel Born September 8, 1913 in Jabbeke, Belgium, immigrated to Canada in 1929. Passed away peacefully on April 16, 2013 in his 100th year. Beloved husband of the late Josie (2003). Dear brother to Paul D"hondt & late wife Frances (2012) of Windsor. Loving father and father-in-law to Brian & Carol D"hondt of Windsor, Yvonne & Michael Deery of Wallaceburg, Lyle & Annette D"hondt of Kitimat B.C., Kevin D"hondt & Leanne Market of Windsor. Cherished grandfather to David (Nicole) D"hondt, Colleen (Kevin) Roy, Jason D"hondt, Sean D"hondt, Todd (Sharon) Deery, Karen Deery (Mike Moorhouse), Mark Deery, Janet (Scott) Henry, Corey D"hondt, Connie (Kevin) Carlson, Matthew D"hondt (Kenya Holness), Nicole D"hondt, Jacqueline D"hondt, Dawne Market. Dear great-grandfather to Fox, Jax, Xavier, Nolan, Nash, Sarah, Joshua, Jacob, Caitlin, Jocelyn, Sadie, Shane, Haylee, Ryder, Brandon, Shelby, Alyssa. Uncle to David & Marian Milton of Australia. Leon was a member of the Canadian Post Office and Canadian Postal Corps. for 37 years. He proudly served overseas in England, Sicily, Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium from 1939-1945. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 12 and longtime resident of Kensington Court. The family wishes to thank all the nurses, doctors and staff who provided excellent care for Leon during his last years. E. on Thursday, April 18, 2013 from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Prayers at 4:30 p.m. A Veteran"s Service under the auspices of the Windsor Veteran"s Memorial Service Committee will be held at 7:30 p.m. Family and friends will be received at Corpus Christi Church (1400 Cabana Rd. West) for visiting from 10:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
