Obituary of John Nazarkiewicz

NAZARKIEWICZ, John, "Opa", "GRUMPY" John got his wish. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at HDGH, with his beloved daughter, Rita, by his side. Reunited with his dear wife, Mary (2004) on January 24, 2013. Much loved Opa of Kyle. Survived by his sister, Sophie, in the Ukraine. John was born in Poland on June 29, 1922, was raised in the Ukraine, and then moved to Germany where he met his future wife. He emigrated to Canada in 1946, found work, and then sent for Mary. Together, they built a life in Windsor and shared many good times with their dear friends, the Kolody and Wolf families. John worked at Chrysler for 30 years. He enjoyed bowling and woodworking after his retirement in 1981. More recently, his favourite pastime has been scratching Bingo cards, bought daily from the gang at the Seminole Shoppers. He was fondly nicknamed "Grumpy" because of the souvenir hat from Disneyworld that he always wore. The hat was always a conversation-starter, especially on his frequent visits to family doctor, Dale Ziter, who always asked, "How's Grumpy?" My sincere thanks to Dr. Dale for his kind attention and care for over 25 years; he and his staff members, Sue and Liz, are wonderful, compassionate people. John will always be remembered for his strong work ethic and his physical strength. He was a proud man, never asking for help, but always offering it. Opa was also extremely proud of his grandson's outstanding academic achievements. At John's request, there will be no service. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Banwell Chapel) 519-253-7234 11677 Tecumseh Rd. E. at Banwell. Rest in peace Daddy/Opa..you will be forever missed.
