Obituary of Stanley Joseph Bested

Bested, Stanley passed away peacefully on Friday September 2, 2011, in his 80th year, at Malden Park, with his loving wife and family by his side. Beloved husband of 57 years of Shirley (Hall). Loving father of Randy and Alison, Brad and Sarah, Todd and Pamela and Michelle and Eric (Br"l"). Proud papa of Bradley (Nicole Stobbs), Meghan, Zachary, Jonathan, Tyler, Stephen, Bryce, Chlo" and Alexandre. Predeceased by his parents Florence and George Hutchison, Wilfred Bested, by his brothers, Bruce and Wilfred Bested and sister Isobel Dymond. Survived by his brother George Hutchison and wife Elaine. Will also be deeply missed by his extended family and many friends. Stan was born in Toronto in 1932 and married his sweetheart iin 1954. Above all, he had a great love for his family. He described his children as his "best friends" and his grandchildren as "the bonus in life", never missing an opportunity to attend their various sporting events. He had a passion for sports and coached both hockey and baseball for many years. "Sammy" as he was known by his colleagues worked for 44 years as a Pressman at the Windsor Star, The Toronto Globe and Mail and the Toronto Telegram. He also worked at Maple Leaf Gardens as a young boy and had many wonderful stories to share with his children and grandchildren. At Stan's request there will be no public visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate Stan's life will be held at St. Aidan's Anglican Church in Windsor on Saturday September 10, 2011 at 11:00 am.
