Obituary of Sarah Philomena Nielsen

May 9, 1948 - April 9, 2020 NIELSEN, Sarah Philomena (nee Houlihan), a true shining light. On April 9, 2020 at the age of 71, Heaven gained another angel. Cherished wife of Philip for 48 years. Dear mother to Ian (Tricia), Christopher (Deirdre), and Keonna (Jeff). Grandmother to Meriah, Johnathon, Keenan, Malik, Maya, Collin, and Declan. Sarah is predeceased by her parents John and Sarah Houlihan (of Ireland). Sarah is the loving sister to the late Thomas Houlihan (Margaret), the late Mary Elliott (the late Daniel), and William Houlihan (Sarah). Sarah also had a special bond with many children, as she served as a loving Foster Mother with the Windsor-Essex County Catholic Children’s Aid Society from 1987-2005. Sarah was blessed with the ability to make anyone around her feel comfortable and loved, showing compassion, acceptance and generosity always, and she found humour in all of life’s adventures. She adored children and the innocence they possess. Sarah had a fierce love for her family and this love showed no bounds throughout the years. The family would like to thank the staff members at Heron Terrace Long Term Care Home whose kindness and compassion was much appreciated. A Celebration of Sarah’s Life with extended family and friends will take place at a later date to be determined. The Bereavement Authority of Ontario has instituted the following directive: “The new maximum number of people who can be at a funeral home at one time (not including staff) is 10 or fewer. This pertains to the entire funeral home.”
