Obituary of Maria Michalczuk
MICHALCZUK, Maria (nee Borowicz) Passed away on March 7, 2012 at Windsor Regional Hospital, Met Campus at the age of 91 years. Reunited with her beloved husband Georg (1990). Loving and devoted mother to Martin and wife Delores Michalczuk, Antonia (Toni) Michalczuk, and Victor Michalczuk. Cherished "Baba" to Ryan and wife Joli; and their children Ryli, River, Lyla and Lyndon; and Adam and partner Sarah. Dear sister to Vincent Borowicz of New Zealand. Predeceased by 2 brothers and 1 sister. Also survived by many nieces and nephews in Canada and New Zealand. Maria became very active in the UWAC Lesia Ukrainka branch, taught Sadochok, and helped with the weekly cabbage rolls and varenyky making which helped to fund the church. She served on Church Council as secretary for many years. She also served as treasurer of Zolota Zhoda for many, many years. She took on the roles of secretary, vice-president and treasurer of UWAC for many years as well as being involved with the museum. Mom sang in the church choir, worked on the catering committee of our church hall, and baked countless tortes for various bazaars and church dinners. For years she also helped to organize the Ukrainian Pavilion of Windsor"s Annual Carousel. She helped organize fashion shows, teas, concerts, symposia and conferences. Our mother also embroidered rushnyky, banners and altar cloths to adorn our church, as well as vestments were needed for our altar boys or the many priests who came to St. Vladimir"s. She taught pysanky writing, was an active of the Eastern Eparchy Committee for many years and was a delegate to countless conferences, conventions, workshops and Sobors across Canada. She loves our Church and our Ukrainian culture and instilled this love into her family. Visitation at the WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Main Chapel) 519-253-7234 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. on Sunday, March 11, 2012 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Panakhyda Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Friends will be received on Monday, March 12, 2012 at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral (2000 Tecumseh Rd E.) for visitation from 9:30 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. Rt. Rev. Fr. Roman Trynoha officiating. Interment to follow at Windsor Memorial Gardens Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral or St. Demetrius Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Etobicoke (Long Branch).
