Obituary of Vincenza Scarfone

SCARFONE, Vincenza It is with much sadness that we announce the death of Vincenza at the age of 91. She died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Reggio Calabria in 1918, she and her 3 children came to Canada in 1954 to join her husband who had arrived earlier, in 1952. Vincenza lived for her family and was happiest when she was surrounded by its members. In her last years, she derived the greatest joy from her great-grandchildren. They were the antidote to her aches and pains. Cherished wife of Nino, who predeceased her. Devoted and loving mother to Santo (Loida), Francesca (Michael) and Lynn (Jake). Beloved Grandma to Andrea, Gina (Terry), and Marc (Sandra). Bisnonna to Carter, Keegan and Sophia. Sister to Rosa of Italy. Predeceased by her parents, Carmine and Domenica. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. In life she was a strong and determined person, intent on doing all she could to help her family succeed in their adopted country. She could be counted on to give sage advice, was a great story teller and had a sharp wit. Her memory was the envy of the whole family. Almost to the very end she could recite word for word, poems she had memorized 80 years ago in elementary school. Visitation to be held at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. on Friday, March 26, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 10 a.m. in the Chapel. Entombment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
