The Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, U.S.-Ontario Province, announce the birth into eternal life of Sister Frances (Fran) Herrick on October 22, 2024, at IHM Care Center, a Senior Living Residence in Monroe, MI. Fran was 86 years old and a Sister of the Holy Names for 66 years.
Predeceased by her mother, Jean - 2001 (Volodin) and her father, Alexander (2012). Survived by her sisters: Virginia (Guy RIP) Durand, Traverse City, MI; Donna Marie (Wesley RIP) Aylesworth, Theresa (Ron) Ljubicic and Rose (Brent) Harrison - all of London, ON. Lovingly remembered by several nieces and nephews.
Fran attended Elementary and Secondary Schools in Windsor, and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy, Windsor. She entered the Sisters of the Holy Names in 1958 and professed Perpetual Vows in August 1963 in Outremont, QC - Motherhouse of SNJM.
Fran taught for 41 years in the Archdiocese of Detroit, MI as well as in Chicago, Illinois. (St. Lucy’s, St Clair Shores; St. Gerard’s in Detroit; St. Mary’s of Redford, Catholic Central and St. Agatha’s HS in Redford). As Campus Minister and teacher, she empowered and urged her students to be creative and to strive to BE their best selves.
In 2000, she retired to MacKinaw City, MI with Sr. Rosemary Petrimoulx, snjm (2022) where they actively reached out to people in the area. Later, both transitioned to Woodland Village in Brighton, MI to continue living life to the full.
Fran was happy to have dual-citizenship - Canada and U.S.A. She spoke French and English. Her hobbies included art, music, reading, astronomy - especially star gazing, clowning with MIME. Emily Dickinson, Matthew Fox, Joan Chittister, OSB and T.S. Elliot were among her favourite authors.
This was her final wish to all: “remember me as loving you.”
A Celebration @ Rosary Chapel of Our Lady of the Assumption Church 350 Huron Church Rd., Windsor, ON on Friday November 15, 2024 from 10am till time of celebration of her Life at 11:00am. Burial to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery, Windsor, ON in St. Ann Section. (Cremation has taken place.)
The Sisters of the Holy Names give thanks: Woodland Village and Comfort Keepers in Brighton, MI where staff cared for Fran till August 2023; St. Therese Care Staff @ IHM Motherhouse in Monroe, MI; Hospice of Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sisters of the Holy Names for Charitable Works, 215 McEwan Ave., Windsor, ON N9B 2E3
