Obituary of Helene Janisse
With great sadness and heavy hearts we share the passing of our beloved Helene on Sunday, October 6, 2024.
She has turned the page and has entered her final chapter, heading home to her loving Lord. Her unwavering faith and constant prayers guided her family as they watched her fiercely battle cancer to the very last day with incredible strength and grace. She savoured life and always focused on the positive and the never missed a chance to count her blessings. Her greatest gift was her family.
She shared 61 years of marriage and love with her devoted husband Lionel. Family gatherings were always filled with love and laughter. Meme’s Easter egg hunts and knitted blankets for each of her grandkids are cherished family memories. Loving mother of Robert Janisse (Samantha), Yvette St John and Daniel Janisse (Mairi). Devoted meme of Trevor St John (Devan) and Ryan St John, Sabrina Marentette (Christopher) and precious great grandson Micah, and Madison Janisse, Hunter Janisse and Zoe Janisse.

Survived by brother Donald Dupuis, Sisters Doris Marks James Marks (2022) and Joe Turner (1998), sister Yvonne Dupuis (1944), Alice Nesbitt Doug (2018) sister Pauline and John Levesque. Helene was a devoted teacher loved by many students. She was very proud to teach for the Essex County Catholic School Board and Conseil Scolaire du District des Ecoles Catholique. She taught many children in SS#1 Maidstone, St Paul in Stoney Point and St Ambroise-St Joachim. Her last years were her most rewarding teaching special need students. She was a member of the CWL in Belle River, Dame de St Anne and Femme de Federation de St Joachim. Helene kept busy once she retired. She was a proud member of the Wonder Broads dragon boat team. Many months were spent in Florida with family and friends. She learned to paint watercolor in the sunny south and has shared many beautiful paintings with her family. Helene and Lionel enjoyed their time golfing, recumbent biking and paddling. Sharing a glass of wine during happy hour as they watched gorgeous sunsets was always a precious ritual. It’s this time where they reflected on many beautiful years together and loving family memories.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, support workers, occupational, respiratory and physio therapists that worked with Helene over the past several months. Thanks to the compassionate staff at the Erie Shores Hospice who made her final days so peaceful.
