Obituary of Giuseppe Desando
(April 10, 1940- September 25th 2024)
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Giuseppe Desando, at the age of 84 years. Born in Curinga, Italy, he was the third of five children born to Giulio and Concetta Desando. In 1952, he came to Canada with his family where they settled in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. It was there Giuseppe met and married his wife Immacolata and raised four children.
Giuseppe leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years Immacolata. He also leaves 4 children and their spouses; Giulio (Rosanna), Raffaele (Anne Marie), Concetta (Jay) and Joe (Sarah), as well as his cherished grandchildren Matteo, Annika, Samuel, Victoria, Jamison, Abriella, Nico, and Eve. Giuseppe also leaves behind his sisters Joanne Sirianni (Rosario), Concetta Michienzi (Giuseppe), brother Eugenio Desando (Leanne) sister-in-laws Brunnina (Rocco), Camilla (Joe) brother in law Raffaele Papa (Rosina). He was predeceased by his brother Nicola Desando (Rosa) his Sister in law Rosseta Rizzo (Bruno) and brother-in-law Joe Papa (Carmela)
He had a lengthy career at Algoma Steel, highlighting the physical strength and work ethic that he passed on to his children. He took pride in them and pushed them all to higher education and successful careers. In 2014 he and his wife moved to Windsor where his days were filled with his true passions in life; family, wine, gardening and making salami. He looked forward to the daily visits from his children and grandchildren, which gave him joy and purpose.
Visitation will take place at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home – South Chapel, 3048 Dougall Avenue (519-253-7236) on Monday, September 30, from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. Parish prayers will be held at 5:30pm. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, October 1st , at Sacred Heart Church in LaSalle from 9:30am until the time of Words of Remembrance at 10:20am. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30am at Sacred Heart Church. Entombment will follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
