Obituary of Gertrudes Alfonso

Gertrudes was born on April 16, 1923 in Canlubang, Laguna, Philippines to Severina Capati and Domingo Medina.

She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years Adriano and her son Danilo. She's survived by her daughter-in-law Beth, daughters Rachel (Dave) and Sonia (Ed), her grandchildren Lester, Cherrilyn (Marcin), William (Haseena), Allan (Shane), Andrew (Janelle), Daniel, Kaye (Josh), and Izza, as well as her 4 great-grandchildren Sunny (Sean), Georgia, Jordana, and Nika.

Gertrudes was an early childhood educator and an ESL teacher. She was a softball player and an avid follower of the PBA Basketball games, baseball and tennis. She had a voracious appetite for Reader's Digest. She instilled a love of laughter, food, generosity, and was always the life of the party. She embraced life to the fullest until she turned centennerian. She had survived many worldwide crises and pandemics. But, good genes, staying active and having a great sense of humour were her secrets to healthy longevity.

Her health began to decline in the past couple of years. She fought a good fight. She finished the race and graduated to glory. Her family, and friends will terribly miss her. They love her so much and will treasure fond memories of her. She was ready to come home to be with the Lord until her heart's desire was granted.

Matthew 25:21 "His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord."

Revelation 21:4 "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away."

A celebration of Life of Gertrudes Alfonso will be held at the Windsor Chapel Funeral Home - Central Chapel (1700 Tecumseh Rd. E 519-253-7234). Viewing from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 with light snacks provided, followed by a Christian Worship Service at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Green Lawn Memorial Gardens (a 15 min. drive away).
