Obituary of Helen Gerry

Helen Gerry (nee Panchyshak) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in love and full of joy on Easter Sunday March 31, 2024. Helen was born on January 13, 1937, in Winnipeg Manitoba. At the age of 10, she and her mother left the farm in Prawda, Manitoba and moved to Windsor where she lived the rest of her life. After graduating W.D. Lowe high school, Helen worked at the Windsor Star where she met Gordon Gerry. They were married on January 30,1959 and enjoyed 51 years together until Gordon’s passing in 2010. Helen was a very warm, caring and outgoing person who had many enduring friendships. She was always on the phone or out with a friend or family member, maintaining relationships with loved ones no matter how far away they lived. Nothing stopped her from trying new things and embarking on travel adventures. She was gracious, loving, kind and grateful for all things and people in her life. Helen had a good sense of humour and possessed a strong wit; always a pleasure to be with! In addition to raising her family, Helen worked at Trinity United Church as secretary for 35 years and retired in 2002. Helen is predeceased by her parents Philip and Frances, two brothers Edward and Donald (Mary-Anne), in-law parents Garnett and Velma Gerry, brother-in-law Richard Gerry, sister-in-law Barbara Baker and great granddaughter Aila Marley Palmer. Helen is survived by her two daughters, Susan O’Brien and Sandra Palmer (Jim), grandchildren Nathan O’Brien, Ashley Friesen (Nathan), Courtney Palmer (Warren Bohm), Luke Palmer (Michaela), sister-in-law Helen Panchyshak, brother-in-law Robert Baker, as well as several nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by several friends who provided her great fellowship and support - Barbara Jean, Shirley, Lynne, Nancy, Marie and Mary. A private gathering to celebrate Helen’s life will take place at a future date. Until we meet again Mom and Baba, we love you!
