Obituary of Olga Malec

The family of Olga Malec are sad to announce the peaceful passing of our mother on April 3rd at 100 years. She is now reunited with her loving husband Bazel (Bill) who she has missed since his passing in 2008.

Loving mother to Mitch and wife Sharon, Paul and wife Sharon and Helen Andersen and husband Keith. Grandmother to Ken, Kari, Lindsay (Fil), Matthew (Karly) and great grandmother to Connor and Kira (DJ). Also survived by sister Luba and George Schultz, nephew Victor and niece Nina.

Besides dad, mom was predeceased by her parents George and Alexandra Derezun, her in-laws Stephanie and Peter, sister Mary and brothers-in-law Walter Mykitczyn and Leon Lipnicki, nephew Bob and niece Lydia.

Mom was born on August 28th, 1923 in Lubel (Pinsk) Belarus and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1947 after spending three years in Germany. Mom worked part time in the kitchen at the Top Hat Supper Club and then as a sewer at the General Motors Trim Plant for almost 25 Years.

Mom was a great cook using the “taste and add” method of preparing, cabbage rolls, city chicken, potato pancakes and apple squares.

The family would like to acknowledge the compassionate and loving care mom received on the fourth floor of Sunrise Senior Living where she has resided for the last two years. We would also like to thank the neighbours on Windermere Road that kept a watch on mom for many years and a special heartfelt thank you to special care givers and dear friends Kathi and Cheryl who made it possible for mom to live at home till she was 98 years old.

Visitation will be held at Windsor Chapel- Central Chapel (1700 Tecumseh Rd. E.) 519-253-7234 on Thursday, April 11, 2024 from 4-7pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 10 am at Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church (1410 Drouillard Rd., Windsor, ON) with burial to follow at Windsor Grove Cemetery.
