Dear Ruthie & Family Our thoughts & prayers are with you as you mourn the loss of your loved Husband, Dad & Grandpa. John was a wonderful Brother-in-law to Ray & I. We loved your & his visits & his humour, (didn’t he love my Crackle Top Cookies). We’ll sorely miss his funny cantor & so sincere care for us as well. He had a very loving giving heart, so full of care & love. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Our Love and prayers to You and Family. Ray & Joan

John was my older brother and despite our age difference we were always close. As kids he protective of me and as we grew older, he occasionally took me with him when he visited places like Windsor Dragway and Checker Flag Raceway. As adults he supported me through my two bouts of cancer and the untimely death of my wife Barbara. We talked weekly and took turns travelling to each other’s home. On his trips to the Yukon, he especially enjoyed travelling to Haines, Alaska where we fished for Coho salmon. I’ll miss our talks while drinking a beer and eating some snacks on the tail gate of my truck while taking a break from fishing. Unfortunately, our trips were interrupted by the Covid Pandemic and my recent health problems. I am gutted that I can’t attend the funeral but I underwent exploratory surgery this past Tuesday and was advised by my medical team not to travel back east for fear further damaging my health. I’ll miss you brother and I’ll promise to watch over your families.

Ruth, For many years John was a valued member of the events team at United Way. He preferred to help out in the background never wanting any credit. Without his help we could never have been so successful. He had a kind soul, was always ready with a joke or a story and would have given us all the shirt off his back. Thank you for sharing him with all of us, we were better having known him.

I am utterly devastated. I will miss our phone calls every 3-4 days talking about our lives and the world around us. We discussed everything about how our wives put up with us, our kids, and politics. No one or event escaped our attention and always ending up about a laugh about ourselves and how jaded we are. I have many, many fond memories of spending pre poker mornings with John and Jim Kelly. Me learning all about cars, listening to their bad jokes and collecting wife stories to use as bribery ammunition. I truly miss those mornings and John. He will be missed by many in the poker room.

Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of John. John was a great friend that would do anything for you. He also adored his grandchildren. He had strong opinions about most things and John always let you know what he thought. Over the years we shared many meals, exchanged gifts, enjoyed cards and even a couple trips. His friendship and company will definitely be missed by all that knew him.
