On behalf of my deceased mother (who retired and finished working with Dr. Cassidy in 1976), Elizabeth,(Betty) Maroon, I would like to extend not only my condolences but also my appreciation for the magnanimous way he treated my mother when she worked for/with him in the Special Treatment for Outpatients (STOP) program at was then the Windsor Western Regional Hospital Psychiatric Unit on Prince Rd. in Windsor. Forgetting the exact details, there was some loop hole which the hospital administration took advantage of refusing to augment my mother’s wage equal to a male staff since there were no males working in the position she held in the STOP program. So your husband and father took it upon himself to do what he thought was the right thing to do and augmented my mother’s wage from his own pocket. In so ding, not only did he do so financially but also boosted her sense of self respect. I was a teen at the time and the domino affect it had on my respect for my mother is something I still recall as I as a 75 year old man take the time to tell you. Apart from this your husband and father earned my utmost respect from things I would hear about him in our community and his contributions to it. I no longer live in Windsor but am ever so happy to have come across his obituary so that I could share these thoughts with you. Having read the other condolences I see he was a man worthy of the admiration and respect. he earned from me. Sincerely, Joseph Maroon

My sincere condolences to the family of Dr. Walt Cassidy.
He made a difference in many people's lives. I worked with him in the Outpatient Clinic as his clerk for several years where I got got to know him. He was a no nonsense kind of doctor who would tell you exactly how it is, and like it or not He would tell his patients how to make their illnesses better.
He was highly respected and loved by a lot of patients who he took care of for years. I was blessed to have learned so much from the talks we would have. R.I.P Dr Cassidy in Heaven where you can rest. It was a great pleasure and respect to have known you. To his family, keep him close in your heart and he'll never be far away.

Walter Cassidy was an irreplaceable force for good in his community and in the lives of all who knew him. He had a legendary sharpness of wit (for which I took my turn being the target) delivered with a folksy wisdom and sometimes in a compassionate vernacular. He cleared pathways for the accomplishments of others, which he encouraged with a selfless pride. With Walter's loss, there is a huge void in the community's collective heart, and especially in the hearts of those lives which he impacted. Condolences to his family, whose losses will be the greatest. May your grief bring you peace. Rest in Peace, Walter - there will never be another like you.

I would like to extend my sincere condolences on the loss a husband and father. I want to also say that I thank your father and husband so very much for helping me get well and guiding me back on the road to a better life. Sincerest condolences to the Cassidy family, friends, all who mourn the loss of their friend ,, I first met, worked with Dr Cassidy in 1970 in the psych units, young adult unit, outpatient clinic, methodone clinic ~ immediately I recognized, admired his relentless passion to maintain the integrity of the Community Mental Health Care Program .. We are sad because we lost him, but smile because we had him'... Doc Cassidys fav song by Debby Boon ' You light up my life..You give me hope to carry on ' ~ Yes you did dear friend ,,, thx for the wonderful memories ~ May we all find solace, embracing all the wonderful memories we shared with a remarkable, wise, loving man..xoxox

I was a colleague, friend, golfing partner of Walter for 35 years. So much dedicated to patients. He never forgot the difficult times growing up in a depression( economic not mental ) and never wasted anything from tees/golf balls and the last drop of his favorites CANADIAN beer and Irish Whisky. There will never be a more colorful personality like him again nor with his varied talents..
Dear Walter, my fondest buddy, RIP.
condolences to dear Laura and family.

We had the pleasure of meeting Walter and Laura on our trip to Canada and remember the kind welcome we got on visiting your family homes. Having your partner and parents for so many years makes parting with them even harder. Alzheimer’s disease is a difficult cross to carry, but with a long life, we are sure you all have many good memories of Walter’s life to focus on at this time. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time. Our sincere sympathy to his wife, our close friend Tanya, Conrad and Gabriel: Dee ( Andrea) and Pierre, Walter and your families, Walter’s siblings David and Sharon.

To the family of Dr Cassidy there are no words that can convey the sorrow of his passing. I had the pleasure of working with him for many years through many hospital transitions. Truly an icon and loved by many, both staff and patients. Very compassionate and that laugh and smile and suspenders are always what comes to mind when I think of him. I will remember the way he sat with his legs crossed, pipe in his mouth and glasses on his head. He will be remembered by many who crossed his path whether a moment or a lifetime. God bless you doc!
