I was a student of Mr Clinansmith at Birtle Collegiate and was lucky to have him as my history teacher. He chatted with me one day about the possibility of winning the history award that year and that encouragement helped me to focus on my studies and win that award. The lessons learned were carried forward to the students I worked with and encouraged along the way. Thank you Mr Bill. RIP. Kathy (Stowe) Meekins

HELLO ADRIENNE.... I WORKED ALONG SIDE BILL WHEN HE WAS TEACHING HERE IN BIRTLE.... ONLY RECENTLY DID I LEARN THAT HE HAD PASSED AWAY... DID NOT KNOW ABOUT HIS ALZHEIMERS AND CANCER PROBLEMS. HE WAS A GREAT GUY AND HAD A WONDERFUL PERSONALITY THAT WAS UNIQUE. AND HAS BEEN SAID BEFORE, HE WAS WELL LIKED BY HIS STUDENTS. I am so sorry to read of Bill’s passing. I taught alongside Bill at Century Secondary School years ago. He was beloved by students and appreciated by colleagues. I remember his wonderful sense of humour and his positive and enthusiastic energy. I was a brand new teacher with a LOT to learn and his example encouraged and improved me. My thoughts are with all of you who grieve and who miss him every moment.

I have fond memories of Mr. Clinansmith. He was one of our teachers in Birtle, Manitoba. I enjoyed his classes and he was alway interested in what was going on in his students lives. He made basketball a big thing in a small Manitoba town. Bill was also a big part of the Birtle Bluejays. Both of my brothers enjoyed having him and his brother Steve on the team. Rest In Peace Bill. So sorry to your family for your loss! Mr. Clinansmith was a teacher who made such a positive impact on so many of his students. His firm but empathetic nature made it easy to want to do well in his classes. He will leave behind such positive memories for so many!

Adrienne and family. Bill P shared with myself and other Birtle Falcon basketball 'alumni' news of Bill's passing. We were rather short on talent (except Tyrone), but we had plenty of elbows, and 'Mr. C' led us with his enthusiasm, wit and line drills. I have such fond memories of high school and Bill was a big part of that. Best wishes, Andrew Robert

To all of Bill’s family I extend my deepest sympathy. I met Bill in the early days of his return from Alberta when he was supply teaching at Monarch Secondary School, again our paths would cross at Century Secondary and the many festivals and activity days at Ecole Bellewood where Naomi and my son Alex were in the same grades. I will remember Bill as a free spirit, excellent historian and a lover of his motorcycle. May he rest in peace.

Adrienne, my heartfelt condolences go out to you and your family. My father Al was Principal at Birtle Collegiate as Bill was starting his teaching career and I believe that you worked with my mother Trudy at the Birtle hospital. I was a student of Bill's so our families have something of a past connection (I remember when your kids were just little pumpkins, LOL). I've thought of Bill over the years as he was easily the teacher that I most connected with. He coached our senior boys basketball team and we played baseball together on the Birtle "Blue Jays". He had a knack of being able to teach, connect with his students and both giving and demanding respect. Gone but not forgotten. Bill Parnetta

Dear Adrienne and family. What a loss. I worked with Bill at Herman and he was a great teacher and mentor to students. Very well respected, always a smile on his face and was a role model. I read that he started to do the same in Mexico. I only wish I had known he moved to Mexico and I could have watched him trying to teach English with little knowledge of Spanish, as we vacation in Quintana Roo every year. Brings a smile to my face knowing he made the Mexican kids laugh as well. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. Dario Rossit
