Obituary of George Sam Popovich

POPOVICH, George Sr. Passed away suddenly on September 19, 2008 at Windsor Regional Hospital, Metropolitan Campus, at the age of 89 years. Reunited with his beloved soulmate Peggy (nee Spoiala) (2002) and survived by wife Shirley Yates. Loving and caring father to George Popovich Jr. and wife Adele, Gloria Evans and husband Alan, Richard Popovich and wife Brenda and Shawn Yates and wife Charlene. Cherished "Moshu" to Andrea Steen and husband Mike, Matthew Popovich and wife Heather-Anne, Darren Evans and wife Arlene, Eric Evans and wife Shelley, Jaclyn Popovich and fiance William, Jeffrey and Jillian Popovich and Brad Yates. Great-grandfather to Sarah, Emma and Abby Steen; Kelsey and Chloe Evans, and Spencer Popovich. Dear brother to Louie Popovich and late wife Norma. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Sam and Elizabeth Popovich and brothers Nick, Paul, Peter and Alex Popovich. Mr. Popovich was a retired employee of Ford Motor Company after 44 years of dedicated service. George was a founding and dedicated member of St. George's Romanian Orthodox Cathedral and its Church Choir. As a respected member, George was honoured to have served as St. George's Council President and in his later years he continued to serve his church community as a Cantor. Visitation at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. on Sunday, September 21, 2008 and Monday, September 22, 2008 from 2 - 5 and 7 - 9 p.m. Prayers Monday at 7:30 p.m. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at St. George's Romanian Orthodox Cathedral (1960 Tecumseh Rd. E.) for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Fr. George Sandulescu officiating. Interment to follow at Windsor Memorial Gardens Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Windsor, Windsor Regional Cancer Centre or St. George's Romanian Orthodox Cathedral would be appreciated by the family.
