Obituary of Carmel Mary Fanick
Passed away peacefully from this world on Wednesday, October 11th, 2023, blanketed in the love of her family. She is survived by her husband George (of 63 years) and by her sons Kevin and Darryl (Anita). She loved her family dearly and will be fondly remembered by her seven grandchildren, Alexandra (Michael), Aaron, Lauren, Ryan, Isabella, and Liam, and by her two great-grandsons Michael and Ryan. She will also be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews in Canada, Ireland, England, and the United states. Mom is predeceased by her parents Thomas and Mary White, by her three brothers, Kevin, Brendan and Thomas, and by three of her sisters, Rosaleen, Una and Patricia. She is survived by her sister Dorothy who resides in Dublin, Ireland. Mom was born in Dublin, Ireland on July 21, 1928. She started out as a teacher working with kindergarten children, and in the late 50’s moved to Detroit, Michigan where she worked for the Burroughs Corporation. It was in Detroit at a community dance that she met George. They married and Mom moved permanently to Windsor, where she and George raised their family. Mom was many things in life, but most of all she was a constant presence of love. For her there was nothing more important than her family. Mom believed deeply that we can make the lives of others better through our words and actions. She often quoted the proverb, “ It’s better to light a candle than to curse the darkness”. Many thanks to the staff at Met Campus, as well as the Hotel-Dieu Grace Transition to Betterness Unit for their care and support over these last weeks. Many thanks also to Dr. Carlini for his care of Mom for the past ten years.
In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with Mom’s concern for others, donations to Transition to Betterness, or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated. Visitation will be held at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home, Central Chapel 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E (519-253-7234) on Friday, October 13, 2023 from 3-6pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday, October 14 from 9:30am with Funeral Procession to leave at 10:30 going to Immaculate Heart Church (2153 Parkwood) for Funeral Mass at 11am.
