Obituary of Marguerite Anne Smit (nee Montello)
Passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on September 7, 2023, at the age of 87. Beloved wife of Koene for over 63 years. Loving mother to Norman (Caroline), Robert (Donna), Anne Marie (Ron) and Marilyn. Cherished grandmother to Megan, Emily, Noah and Caitlyn and great-grandmother to Gwendoline. Dear sister of Frank Montello (late Norma), late Carmella Brieda (late Louis) and late Marilyn Kavanaugh (Don). Daughter of the late Anthony and late Anna Montello. Daughter-in-law of late Koene and late Petronella Smit. Sister-in-law of late Anne Montello. Marguerite was a loving aunt to numerous nieces and nephews and will be remembered by many lifelong friends. Predeceased by best friend and companion Cola.
Marguerite was a dedicated nurse who started her career at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital. She continued on for many years in the first aid at Chrysler Canada, where she was respected and loved by all. Marguerite’s passion for people began with her working in the family-owned restaurant, “The Paradiso“. It was from here on that she continued to own and run many businesses (Fiddler’s, Berringer’s and Halftime Pub and Grill) with her family.
God and family were Marguerite’s main focus and purpose. She was extremely devoted to her family and opened her home for many gatherings, where family and friends were witness to her generous spirit and loving heart.
