Obituary of John Hreno

JOHN GREG HRENO

On August 29, 2023, John passed away surrounded by the love of his family, following a brief battle with cancer. Cherished husband of Millie, loving father of his son John (Kelly), adored Dzedo by his grandchildren, Zachary and Molly. John is predeceased by his parents Andrew and Anna, his son Sheldon (1999) and his brother Andy (2020) and his wife Elenor (2002).  

John was a man of strength and determination. He was a proud graduate of former W.D. Lowe School and completed his professional education at U of T School of Architecture. Following the completion of his education, he ventured into his private practice in his home town where he had a successful career over 30 years and left a legacy of significant architectural attributes in the city.  John pursued many interests and community involvement. He was an avid sailor and raced his sail boat for many years under the burgees of South Port Sailing Club and he Windsor Yacht Club. His racing position was always known because of the aroma of his pipe. John is a long-time member of Essex Golf and Country Club where he will be missed by his many friends. His interests extended to the art and music community in the city and being an active member attending all the events. He will the remembered as a devoted grandfather, who enjoyed travelling with his family on memorable yearly trips in the warm climates down south and ski trips out west.  We will treasure memories of John in his garden that he created and enjoyed.  Although we are heart broken, we take comfort from knowing how much he enriched our lives.
