James Joseph Chantler
April 30, 1936 - August 13, 2023
Passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at 87 years of age. Predeceased by his loving wife Norma Heath Chantler (Niven), March 24, 2016 and parents James Nathaniel Chantler and Winifred May Chantler (Horton), his in-laws Alec and Mary Niven (Dixon), his sister Eleanor Jane Chantler, brother George Arthur Chantler (Beverly), infant grandson Joseph Chantler and grandson Kiel Nathaniel Martin (Aubree). Survived by his three children Father James Alexander Chantler (Mary), Heather Jeanne Martin (Craig), and Coach Heath Andrew Chantler (Krystyne). Grandchildren Danielle (Todd), James, Alec, Nathaniel, Claire (Megan), Matthew (Skyler), Sadie, Sonny and his great grandchildren Mary Margaret (Jacob), Dana, Aaron, Preston, Relenna, Owen, Scarlett and Shea and great great grandchildren Natalie and Danielle. Survived by his sibling William Frederick Chantler (Donna) as well as several brother and sister in-laws, nieces and nephews. Special uncle to Becky McKinley-Pietroangelo (Gino). He cherished his life-long friendship with the late Pete and Pat Conway.
James was mechanic and owned James Chantler Service Limited (Jimmy's Sunoco) and was a Shop Supervisor at Transit Windsor. He was a member of the Windsor/Essex Historical Vehicle Society and the Ontario Retail Gasoline Association. He was a founding member of the Windsor/Essex County Branch of the Prayer Book Society of Canada and a founding member of the Church of the Resurrection. James was an avid sportsman, fan of football, baseball and a hockey coach. James was a classic car enthusiast. James was steadfast in his faith. Foremost, James was dedicated and devoted to his family.
Family and friends are invited to Windsor Chapel Funeral Home, 3048 Dougall Ave., Windsor, (519-253-7236) for visitation on Thursday, August 17, 2023 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday, August 18, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. The Burial Office by his son, Father James, will follow on Friday, August 18, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. Interment will be held on a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Church of the Resurrection or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.
