Obituary of Michele Vonella

In loving memory of an accomplished artisan, we give our salute to Michele Vonella who passed away suddenly at home on July 26, 2023.

Together, with his beloved wife Silvana of 59 years, he embarked on a journey from Calabria, Italy to Canada where they called Windsor home. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by his daughters Francesca, Rosella (nee. Latam) and husband Rick Penney, Elena, and his favorite, a son, Michael.  He is survived by his sister Pina (Vincenzo) and Mimma (Michele) in Girfalco. His life lessons will be missed by all his nieces and nephews. It was throughout the years however, as his grandchildren; Michael, Olivia, Maxwell, Vanessa, Bryson, Maya, Nina & Simona were born that he knew his heart and purpose in life was full.

He loved his city.  He was a man of dignity and a pillar of the community. He gave endlessly, in the form of his time and wisdom leading and championing the many causes he stood for, the vision of Via Italia and Erie St, the evolution of the Caboto Club, and over the decades his involvement in a vast number of associations.

Their tailor shop or ‘la bottega’, was known as a gathering place and it is fitting that we ask you to gather with us at Windsor Chapel (Central Chapel) 1700 Tecumseh Rd E Windsor ON (519)253-7234 for visitation on Wednesday August 2, 2023 from 2-5pm and again at 7-9pm followed by a mass St. Angela Merici Church on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 11am- to bid him a final farewell. Online condolences and cherished memories of Michele may be shared with his family at www.windsorchapel.com

To his countless friends along the way who he cherished and to the hundreds of clients who he dressed, our family thanks you.  We are proud to know you wear his name.

He will find eternal peace in heaven in the company of his beloved friends and family and alongside his brothers Leonardo (survived by Benedetta), Rocco (survived by Concetta), and his late son in law, Graydon Latam.  He will reunite with his parents, Francesco and Francesca, whom he had to move away from in search of a better world way too early in life.

The art of a tailor did not die, rather, it will live on with his name regarded as one of its great true masters.
